Background
Dr. Heath Smith was born and raised in Paradise, Texas of Wise County. Dr. Smith’s ambition to become a surgeon was validated when he participated in his first surgical case at 17 years of age. Upon graduation from high school, he attended Texas A&M University at College Station where he completed his undergraduate degree and medical school. Dr. Smith earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2009 and completed his residency at Virginia Tech/ Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia.
He is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS) as well as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Smith has a wide range of experience in the following surgical procedures: bariatric, colonoscopy, colorectal, hernia, breast, appendix, gallbladder, surgical oncology and thyroid.
He and his staff are committed to compassionate patient care and understand the challenges of taking time off work to attend doctor’s appointments. This is what led him to offer Saturday consultations. He is the Medical Director for Wise Health System’s East Campus which is accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program which is a nationally recognized accreditation for bariatric centers recognizing their commitment to quality of care, standards of practice, and excellent patient outcomes. He strives to offer the latest in surgical techniques, including the Gastric Sleeve (VSG) and Gastric Bypass (RNY). He also offers patients seeking revision of prior bariatric surgery options including Lap-band to bypass or Lap-band to sleeve within his practice.
