Speak Up™ Initiatives
Speak Up is an award-winning program sponsored by The Joint Commission to urge patients to get involved in their care. This program provides simple advice on how you, as the patient, can make your care a positive experience. If you or your family has a safety concern, please speak up. We welcome you as a partner on our safety team.
Hand Washing
Hand washing plays a vital role in controlling infections and protecting everyone at Wise Health System locations, including Wise Health Surgical Hospitals. You can expect the staff to frequently wash their hands during your stay. We also encourage patients and visitors to contribute and wash their hands frequently.
Protective Wear
The staff at Wise Health Surgical Hospital uses protective gloves, gowns, masks, and eyewear during the care of patients. This type of apparel is used to prevent infection and is for the protection of both patients and staff.
Fall Precautions for Patients
While in the hospital your medical condition and/or medication may make you unsteady, confused or weak. Medical equipment may also create obstacles for moving around your room. Help prevent falls by using your call light for assistance. Do not attempt to get out of bed or walk without assistance. Keep items frequently used within reach and ask your visitors to help keep your room free of clutter.
Public Safety Officers
The Wise Health System Public Safety Department, which provides security for Wise Health Surgical Hospitals, includes multiple Security Officers and Police Officers at each hospital location. The combination of police and security qualify the hospital as a stand-alone public safety department. Their goal and mission is to keep all who enter our facility safe.
The Public Safety Department enforces Texas state laws, hospital policies, and city ordinances. They conduct their own investigations, make arrests when needed, and assist other law enforcement agencies as needed. Wise Health Surgical Hospitals are monitored by video surveillance and patrolled 24 hours a day / 7 days a week.
